Hardwood Finishing

Custom Clad®-fine hardwoods are ideal for staining or painting to match your decor.

Selected Hardwoods-The Most Attractive and Durable Material Available Today.
Hardwoods are a timeless product, more attractive and durable than the softwoods like pine or fir which most other manufactures use. In general, softwoods are less preferable material-weaker, less durable and with fewer grain characteristics than hardwoods.

That's why all Custom Clad® windows are made of select American hardwoods - Poplar, Oak and Cherry - or the world's finest Honduras Mahogany. To further prevent rot or decay, each Custom Clad® hardwood is sealed with a special wood preservative that retains all the natural beauty while admitting stain or paint.

While Custom Clad® windows are generally shipped with unfinished wood interiors, ready for your stain or paint, any Custom Clad® window can be factory-stained to the color of your choice.

Stain Finishes
Because no two pieces of hardwood are ever identical, subtle grain differences make each and every Custom Clad® window unique. And because no other material resembles hardwood, nothing else lends itself more attractively to stain finishes. Window interiors of vinyl, aluminum, imitation wood grain - even softwoods - pale in comparison to hardwood's character and elegance.

For Custom Clad® windows, we use Poplar as our standard hardwood interior because it is exceptionally able to accept a wide variety of stain and paint. In addition, we manufacture Custom Clad® windows of hardwoods such as Oak, Cherry and Mahogany, which are generally not painted, but can be stained for exceptional beauty, warmth and luxury.

Once Custom Clad® hardwood windows are stained and finished with polyurethane, they become virtually maintenance free for the life of the window.

Paint Finishes
Since it is important to accurately match your interior decor, hardwoods, because of their tight grains, are able to accept paint more readily than pine or other softwoods. All Custom Clad® hardwood windows are ready to finish in the color of your choice, whether it be oil or latex paint.

As with all Custom Clad® windows, Custom Clad® stained glass windows are made from 7/8 inch thick dual insulated glass. So that it's weather protected and deterioration-proof, all leadwork is on the interior pane.

Custom Clad® stained glass designs include clear leaded colonial and diamond muntins, leaded and beveled designs, and leaded and stained glass windows, in operable or fixed sash windows.

Our experienced artists and craftsmen will design and build any leaded glass window from the simplest clear leaded lights to the most complex stained glass scenes, all handcrafted and built in our exclusive stained glass studio.

Bay & Bow Windows

Panoramic Windows of Distinction and Beauty-Only With Custom Clad® Bay and Bow Windows.
Give your home the epitome of visual distinction-plus state-of-the-art energy efficiency-with Custom Clad® Bay and Bow windows. Ideal for new construction as well as renovation and replacement, all Custom Clad® Bay and Bow windows are custom-sized to 1/4-inch increments in width and height. In addition, all units are completely assembled, with maintenance-free exteriors, and matching, pre-cut 3 1/4-inch colonial casing.

Custom Clad® Bay and Bow windows also feature 1 1/4-inch thick, top of the line exterior grade plywood seat, head and jamb boards. Each window's entire interior wood surface can be chosen from the standard Custom Clad& hardwoods-Poplar, Oak, Cherry or Mahogany. Optional jamb widths allow for simple installation.

A variety of glazing options are also available, in any Custom Clad® Bay or Bow unit, including solar gray, solar bronze, and low E. Additionally, Custom Clad® leaded and stained glass designs or hardwood colonial muntins are available. Optional seat board insulation is also available.

Custom Clad®-As Easy to Maintain as They Are Luxurious
Clearly, luxurious, energy-efficient Custom Clad® windows are your best window buy because they're virtually maintenance free. Unlike wood or aluminum, vinyl won't pit, rot, or corrode. In fact, since vinyl is impervious to the elements, it never needs painting or finishing. A simple soap and water solution is all that's needed for occasional cleaning. All window hardware is maintenance free as well, and backed by a lifetime warranty.

With most natural stained wood finishes, occasional wiping with lemon oil or furniture polish is sufficient to prolong the wood for many years.
